Key dates

  • Interviews normally run from December to March.
  • You choose from several offered dates and are then given a time.

How the interview works

  • Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) are a compulsory part of selection.
  • All MMIs are held online.
  • You rotate through several stations, each testing a different attribute.
  • Some stations involve interacting with actors.
  • Others give you a scenario to read and discuss with an assessor.
  • You are not tested on medical knowledge.
  • Scenarios reflect the typical age and experience of applicants.

What they assess

  • Oral and written communication
  • Listening
  • Empathy, compassion, respect and dignity
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Problem solving
  • Motivation to study medicine
  • Teamworking
  • Leading and following
  • Knowing your limitations and when to ask for help
  • Understanding of professionalism

How it's scored and how offers are made

  • Each station is scored and an overall MMI score is calculated.
  • A strong station can make up for a weaker one.
  • Each station is marked out of 10, with a maximum total of 50.
  • After the MMIs, you are re-ranked using your total MMI score.
  • Offers are based on academic, UCAT and MMI scores.
  • Home, Home Widening Participation and International applicants are ranked separately.
  • For 2026 entry, Home interviewees averaged 35.09 out of 50; Home applicants given offers averaged 36.39.
  • Up to 40% of UK places go to students meeting widening participation criteria.
