Key dates

  • Interviews normally run from January to March.
  • You book your slot through Gecko.
  • A reminder email arrives 7 days before; after that you cannot change your time.
  • Online applicants get the Zoom link the working day before.

How the interview works

  • You will rotate through five MMI stations, each a short conversation.
  • Each station has its own interviewer.
  • Each station slot is eight minutes: seven minutes of interview plus one minute to settle in.
  • There are at least two minutes between stations.
  • You start at a randomly allocated station and rotate through the rest in order.
  • You get no information in advance.
  • There is no reading or writing task.
  • Home applicants must attend in person on campus.
  • International applicants living overseas can interview online via Zoom, or attend in person if they wish.

What they assess

  • Communication skills
  • Motivation for dentistry
  • Previous experience, which need not be dental, and what you learned
  • Ethical reasoning
  • Tolerance and understanding of others
  • Ability to cope with the stresses of the career
  • It is not a test of academic knowledge.

How it's scored and how offers are made

  • Each interviewer scores you on an iPad at the end of the station.
  • Interviewers cannot see your scores from other stations.
  • All station scores are collated later.
  • Interview feedback is combined with the rest of your application to reach a decision.
  • The Academic Lead for Admissions makes the final decision.
  • You will not get a decision on the day.
  • Decisions are usually sent by spring through UCAS.
