Key dates
- Invitations are sent only after all applications are reviewed, which can take many weeks.
- The school aims to give you at least two weeks' notice of your interview.
- If you have not heard by the end of December, email DentalCentralEnquiries@cardiff.ac.uk.
How the interview works
- You will take Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI): short, timed stations with themed questions that you rotate around.
- Home fee status applicants attend in person.
- Online interviews are offered only to overseas applicants.
- Anyone can sit the MMI in Welsh or bilingually, and you can switch language between stations.
- Welsh and bilingual slots are limited, so contact the school after your invitation to book one.
- You will not gain or lose points for using Welsh or switching languages.
- Detailed MMI information is sent to you if you are invited.
What they assess
- The attributes the General Dental Council expects of dental professionals
- Thinking on your feet
- Awareness of issues important to the dental profession
- Critically appraising information
- Communicating ideas effectively
- Personal qualities for future career development
- Suitability for the profession
How it's scored and how offers are made
- Your station scores and a separate Suitability for the Profession score are both considered.
- A high station score will not guarantee an offer if your Suitability score is low.
- Offers typically go to the highest-scoring applicants in each applicant group.
- If interview scores are tied, UCAT is used to prioritise offers.
- Only interviewed applicants can receive an offer.
- About 100 offers are made after interview, and a reserve list is also used.
