Key dates

  • You should be available for interview from November to April after applying.
  • Interviews run from late December to March.
  • Reply to your invitation within two weeks, or your application is treated as unsuccessful.
  • Bristol aims to send your outcome within three weeks of interview.

How the interview works

  • You will have a structured interview online, on Zoom.
  • The formal interview lasts about 45–60 minutes.
  • Four assessors interview you.
  • Before the interview, you build a 3D model from dried pasta of an environmental habitat that represents your personality.
  • You show the model to the assessors and answer their questions about it.
  • You also prepare a 5-minute presentation on a current controversial topic in dentistry.
  • Your presentation can use no more than three slides or items.
  • You may be asked to reflect on your work experience.

What they assess

  • Skills and knowledge needed to be a dental student and dentist
  • Insight into topics related to dentistry
  • Honesty, integrity and professional conduct

How it's scored and how offers are made

  • Assessors score your performance.
  • The Admissions Office ranks applicants by interview score.
  • The strongest performers receive offers.
  • If interview scores are tied, UCAT score is the main tiebreaker.
  • Offers are not made without an interview except in exceptional circumstances.
  • Interview performance from earlier cycles is not considered.
  • Decisions are often held until all interviews are finished, so you may wait several months.
